MMCC Weekly Picks: Phoenix

Amid several changes here at Monday Morning Crew Chief, we have decided to add a weekly pick'em column where Jacob, Terrence and Monday Morning Driver writer Patricia will pick who we think will win the race each week.

The format will be easy to follow. Each of us will pick a winner and write a few paragraphs as to why we think they will win. Below the picks will be a weekly standings column where the lowest score leads. We will get one point for a first-place finish and 43 for a third-place finish. If our driver happens to win the pole, we will subtract one point from the final score.
And yeah, we missed Daytona but since it wasn't run on Sunday it doesn't count. Haha. Picks below the break.

Monday Morning Crew Chief Picks: Phoenix

Jacob: Carl Edwards had the best car at Phoenix in the February race last year, and he ran toe-to-toe with Tony Stewart in the November Chase race before finishing second. This time Edwards will seal the deal and quickly remind everybody that he is still a primary contender for the championship.

Terrence: How could anyone bet against Kasey Kahne this week? The newest Hendrick driver has been one of the fastest in each practice so far. n Kahne won the only race here under the new configuration after placing sixth in the spring race. Kahne and company got off to a slow start last week at Daytona due to no fault of their own. Look for the #5 team, who had the fastest 10-lap average in final practice to have a strong day and end up in victory lane. Kahne may even double-dip and win Saturday's Nationwide race as well.

Patricia (Monday Morning Driver): I'm picking Kyle Busch to win the Subway Fresh Fit 500 in Phoenix this weekend. Kyle has one top five and six top 10s at Phoenix. Last year the #18 team finished behind behind winner Jeff Gordon. In the November race, Busch started 43rd because of engine issues. He proceeded to drive through the field and make it to third before his second engine of the weekend blew up. Here's my point, Kyle Busch is always fast at Phoenix.

Standings

  1. Jacob 0
  2. Terrence 0
  3. Patrica 0
